Daniel Gillès – Novelist and Essayist (1917 – †1977)

His output includes three outstanding biographies on Tolstoy (1959), D.H. Lawrence (1965) and Chekhov (1967). He was awarded the Grand Prix des Critiques Littéraires in France for his work on Chekhov.

He also won a literary prize in Belgium: he was awarded the Grand Prix Triennal du Roman in Belgium, in1976, for his novel “Le Festival de Salzbourg“. This was the first in a series of novels forming “Le Cinquième Commandement“.

This was followed by: “Nés pour mourir“, “La tache de sang“, “Le spectateur Brandebourgeois” and “Laurence de la nuit“.

Gott mit uns” was left unfinished, never to be published.
